WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A firefighter from Fort Lauderdale is hospitalized in West Palm Beach with critical injuries from a crash.
The crash happened late Wednesday into Thursday morning along Northlake Boulevard, near Coconut Avenue, in the Acreage.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said a car being driven by firefighter Sauvens "Vince" Castelly was hit by another car. He was on his way home from work.
The impact sent Castelly's car into a tree before rolling over. Firefighters from West Palm Beach had to cut him out of the wreckage. A medical helicopter rushed him to St. Mary's Medical Center with multiple broken bones, a broken sternum, broken cheek bones and other injuries, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
Castelly is about to be a father for the second time in a few months. His wife is pregnant. He's been with Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue since 2007 and celebrated his 10th anniversary with the department last weekend. He is in line to be promoted to Driver Engineer within the next few months.
A gofundme page has been set up to help with medical expenses for the family.
