JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman from Jacksonville is behind bars in West Virginia on charges of concealment of a dead human being.
The dead human being, according to West Virginia State Police, is the woman's 11-year-old daughter.
Investigators say Erica Newsome set out from Jacksonville, Florida, on a drive to Buffalo, New York, with her daughter's body in her car.
The drive came to a halt when Newsome lost control of her car and crashed on U.S. 250 in Pocohantas County, West Virginia.
According to State Police, a couple returning home from a music festival saw a woman remove a body from the wrecked car. The couple called 911. Troopers later found the girl's body over a hill about 150 feet away from the wreckage.
West Virginia State Police said Newsome's daughter was killed in Jacksonville and put into the car on Saturday. The girl's father lives in Buffalo, Newsome's destination.
No word yet on the cause of death. An autopsy is being performed. Newsome could face more charges as the investigation continues.
