ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — A 28-year-old man has been found guilty of first-degree murder after being convicted of holding his ex-boyfriend prisoner before fatally shooting him in 2011.
Authorities said a cell phone video shot Dec. 21 shows 21-year-old Landy Martinez-Esquivel bound and crying in a bathtub while saying "it's not Jose's fault."
The victim called 911 and on the call Jose Adame can be heard firing shots into Martinez-Esquivel's head and chest.
Authorities say Adame fled to North Carolina, where he was arrested on unrelated burglary charges.
Defense attorneys said Adame was involved, but said a nephew ultimately shot Martinez.
The Tampa Bay Times (http://tinyurl.com/z8yoguz ) reports Adame was also sentenced after Friday's verdict to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
