JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — There are heavy hearts at a fire department in Northeast Florida.
The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department said engineer Michael Freeland died after working a crash scene on Thursday morning.
Freeland responded to a crash that involved a "difficult and prolonged extrication," JFRD said in a statement on Facebook. Freeland collapsed, and despite efforts from JFRD crews and UF Health doctors, Freeland died Friday just after 2 a.m.
According to WJXT, Freeland was engaged. He was also trying to pass an exam for a promotion to lieutenant. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
