FHP: One lane back open along Florida Turnpike

FHP: Crash closes all NB lanes of Florida Turnpike. (FDOT)

One northbound lane of the Florida Turnpike is back open after a crash just north of Okeechobee Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Crews shut down all northbound lanes due to a four-vehicle crash, according to the FHP, causing big backups in the area.

Billy Dorwell, 61, was driving his semi-truck north on the Turnpike when traffic ahead suddenly slowed down, according to the FHP. Dorwell wasn't able to slow down in time and crashed into the back of 46-year-old Jonathan Cohen's 2017 Kia Forte.

After colliding with the Kia, the semi-truck rolled on its side and slid forward, hitting a Kia Soul and another semi-truck, the FHP said. Dorwell, Cohen and Scott Brown, the 61-year-old driver of the other semi-truck, were all taken to St. Mary's Medical Center.

John Dootan, the 27-year-old driver of the Kia Soul, is in critical condition at an unknown hospital.
