UPDATE: Police identified the man fatally shot as38-year-old John Randolph. They have put Officer Christine Suarez and Officer Tremayne Barnes on paid administrative leave.

Police say at least one officer opened fire, killing 38-year-old John Randolph in Delray Beach Saturday morning.

Delray Beach police said a man reportedly threatened his mother early Saturday morning when police were called to their home.

Police said that at around 6:30 a.m., police responded to a call of a man in his 30s with a gun who had threatened his mother. Police were communicating with him for some time. Around 7:50 a.m. he ran out of the house brandishing a handgun, and at least one police officer fired in response.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue pronounced Randolpdead on the scene.

Police say Randolph was known to officers. He was previously booked into the Palm Beach County Jail for charges such as battery on a person 65 years or older, carrying a concealed weapon (unlicensed firearm) and possession of prescription drugs with an unlabeled container.

Delray Beach police say the incident occurred at West Drive, south of Highland Avenue.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigation the incident.
