Estranged husband shoots, kills wife's boyfriend in Port St. Lucie murder-suicide
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) —
A car ride turns to anguish and agony Wednesday afternoon.
A woman’s nightmare became a reality after she and her boyfriend realized someone was trailing their car. They pulled over and discovered it was her estranged husband.
He closed in and opened fire on the boyfriend before turning the gun on himself.
“The estranged husband got out of a car and walked up to the 30-year-old male [woman’s boyfriend] and shot him in a head,” said Port Saint Lucie Police Sergeant Darin Howie. The driver was shot to death at point blank range.
The shocking murder-suicide unfolded in broad daylight near the corner of Savona Boulevard and Fletcher Lane.
Sergeant Darin Howie says one thing this couple did wrong was pull into a driveway after realizing they had a tail.
“They trapped themselves in the driveway, they came to a stop, they should have kept going,” Howie said. “If you come to a red light ... if you can make a right or a left turn to try to keep moving, do that and we will find you and we will stop the person to find out why they are following you.”
Howie also added that if someone starts following you, drive towards a police station and call 911.
The 36-year-old woman wasn't injured.
CBS12 is working to find out the names of everyone involved and what set off the estranged husband.
