A school custodian is facing drug charges and the sheriff's office is investigating claims that he sold drugs on school grounds.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office arrested 19-year-old Gary Henderson, of Port St. Lucie, on Thursday evening for possession of drugs on a school campus.

Sheriff Mascara said Henderson worked as a custodian at Dale Cassens Education Complex, which is described as a K-12 alternative education site, in Fort Pierce.

“School Resource Deputies received information on Thursday, which suggested that Henderson may have been selling drugs on the school campus,” said Sheriff Mascara. “After questioning Henderson, deputies found MDMA, LSD and Xanax in his possession.”

However, the sheriff's office said it is still investigating the allegations that led to Henderson's arrest.

“We continue to work diligently with St. Lucie Public Schools and our neighboring law enforcement partners to provide a safe learning environment for our children,” said Sheriff Mascara. “It is important for parents to talk to their children about not only the dangers of drug use but also the consequences. It is our job to protect students from predators on and off campus.”

Henderson was released from the St. Lucie County Jail on a $9,000 bond.
