Dog dragged by car in Palm Beach County still recovering two months later
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) — A dog that was dragged at least half a mile down a road continues to heal.
CBS12 News first reported about Destiny back in July when she was rushed to an animal hospital.
A local charity saved her by footing her medical bills and on Friday, they presented the $10,000 check.
Destiny has spent the last 62 days at the Pet Emergency on Northlake Boulevard, undergoing non-stop medical treatment for her severe injuries.
“Hi Destiny. Hi sweetie. Look at you. Oh my goodness. What a happy girl,” said Samantha Dishman with Salty Dog Paddle, a local charity.
Despite the scars on her body and the open wounds on her shoulders, Destiny is still an energetic, silly and loving dog.
“I can’t believe how well her feet look and everything. It’s like another dog,” Dishman said.
Just two months ago, Destiny was wrapped up in bandages.
She was dragged by a car and suffered injuries to about 80 percent of her body.
“She is doing amazing. We are thrilled. She has made a huge progress. As you can see, she still have a little bit left to go,” Dr. Steven Hanson said.
“She is just a great, resilient dog," Dr. Kara Fiore said. "She is sweet and happy and she's been through a lot and she still loves people."
On Friday, Salty Dog Paddle stopped by to donate a $10,000 check for Destiny's medical bills.
“Everything everyone did as a whole to come together just for this dog," Dishman said. "Most people haven't met her, they haven't met us and they just opened their hearts, opened everything they could give us, and just helped."
The support continues. As soon as Destiny is released from the animal hospital, she’ll be placed in a local dog day care called Central Bark.
She gets to socialize with other dogs and hopefully find her forever family.
“She will be with us for as long as it takes to find the right home for her,” said Gary Walter, Owner of Central Bark.
The doctors would not say how long it will be before Destiny is fully recovered, but they are expecting it will take another few weeks.
