TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBS12) — Governor Ron DeSantis signed the 6-week abortion ban.
The bill was passed by the Florida House on Thursday afternoon with 70 lawmakers supporting the proposed ban, while 40 voted against it. The Florida Senate approved the bill on March 29. Following the approval, the bill made its way to the governor's desk.

In February, DeSantis said he planned to sign the pro-life legislation.
The bill was introduced just hours before the 2023 legislative session in March. The 11 pages in the bill have significantly reduced the amount of time a woman has to get an abortion – and has many stipulations for someone who is looking to get one.
SB 300 also provides $25 million in taxpayer money to fund so-called “Pregnancy Care Centers,” which offer prenatal care for expectant mothers and support after the baby is born for everything from diapers to car seats to adoption services.

CBS12 contacted Desantis' office multiple times before he signed the bill, but his office never responded.
Now the enactment of the bill is in the hands of the Florida Supreme Court, which has four DeSantis-appointed judges. Until the court makes its decision, the 15-week ban is still in effect.
