The betting odds for who will win the presidency in 2024 have swung in favor of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, marking the first time he has surpassed former President Donald Trump.

Incredible shift in the odds for President in 2024! Ron DeSantis overtook Trump for the first time,” Maxim Lott, the creator of ElectionBettingOdds.com,tweeted.

Lott argued the shift was due to DeSantis’s dominant reelection win in Florida. DeSantis won the gubernatorial race with a "crazy 20% margin," Lott added.

Betting on elections is not currently legal in the United States, but several websites maintain odds for overseas bettors.

The midterms have been called a referendum on Trump after several candidates he endorsed appeared to struggle on Election Night.

Given the history of presidents in power, Democrats controlling all of Washington, inflation, this should’ve been a much stronger night for Republicans,” former President Barack Obama strategist David Plouffe said on MSNBC.
A bunch of reasons for that. But at the top of them is Donald Trump. He’s deeply unpopular, he supported a bunch of horrible Senate candidates who may end up coughing up the football here," Obama added.

While Trump admitted Tuesday’s elections were “disappointing,” he said the midterms were still a “big victory” for Republicans. He also plans to make a “very big announcement” next week, which many expect will be Trump's formal announcement to run for president in 2024.

But after DeSantis’s big performance Tuesday, many see the Florida governor as the top Republican contender, and some are even telling Trump to get out of the way.

Trump has 0 shot at 2024 general. After tonight, this isn’t up for debate,” conservative commentator Mike Cernovich tweeted. “I was around in 2015 when he had ‘no chance,’ and accurately said he’d win. Threw biggest inauguration event in 2017. Times change or he changed or whatever. DeSantis in 2024 or accept total defeat.”

Trump has not indicated he plans to get out of anyone's way, and has not shied away from the possibility of a potential matchup against DeSantis.

In fact, the former president has already begun taking stabs at the highly popular Florida governor.

Now that the Election in Florida is over, and everything went quite well, shouldn’t it be said that in 2020, I got 1.1 Million more votes in Florida than Ron D got this year, 5.7 Million to 4.6 Million?” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. “Just asking?”
