OKEECHOBEE, Fla. (CBS12) — Before the bands of Okeechobee Music Festival started playing, 19 people had been arrested, the Okeechobee Sheriff's Office said.
Traffic enforcement began on Monday, Feb.26 on the roads leading to the festival, according to the sheriff's office. Drivers were pulled over for speeding on the 45 mph road. The 19 people that were arrested between Feb. 26 through Feb. 28 were festival employees.
Those attending the festival were warned before entering the premises that K-9s would be searching vehicles for illegal drugs, the sheriff's office said. Amnesty boxes were also strategically placed where the attendees could get rid of any illegal narcotics before being searched by a K-9.
Deputies ended up confiscating a 105 pounds worth of drugs.
Another 44 people that attended the four day festival were arrested, according to the sheriff's office. Those arrested faces charges that included driving with no license, possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substance (Resin, Hydromorphone, Psilocybin(mushrooms), MDMA, Alprazolam, Promethazine HCL), cocaine, LSD and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stephen said. “'You can’t expect what you don’t inspect' is going to be my continued focus while performing this balance. I’d like to thank the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement(FDLE), Federal Bureau of Investigations(FBI) and Okeechobee City Police Department.”
