Thursday is expected to bring a conclusion to the three-day sentencing of a once-prominent eye doctor who stole $100-million from the US government.

However, the judge hinted he may not be ready to sentence Dr. Solomon Melgen by today’s deadline.

On Tuesday, the defense brought in ten patients and friends who testified on behalf of the Doctor. They shared stories of his generosity, many of which included paying nothing out of pocket when they fell on hard times or lost their insurance.

Wednesday his wife Flora echoed that sentiment. She pleaded for the judge to show her husband mercy. She specified he would never intentionally trick anyone.

However, Dr. Melgen was found guilty of 67 counts of healthcare fraud, falsifying patient records and ordering unnecessary procedures.

Melgen’s attorneys want his sentence to be less than ten years. However, the 62-year old is facing 30 years to life in prison.
