Coast Guard rescues man off the coast of Delray Beach
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —
A 65-year-old man from Canada was rescued Thursday night about eight miles east of Delray Beach, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
Jean Dextraze's 38-foot sailboat, the Sainte Paix, began taking on water around 6:16 p.m., according to officials. Dextraze called watchstanders on his satellite phone alerting them where he was and climbed into his dingy.
Crews from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, along with the Coast Guard, were sent out to rescue him, officials said. Dextraze was taken to the Boynton Beach Inlet, where EMS transported him to Bethesda Hospital East.
The sailboat sunk and is being monitored as a hazard and for pollution, according to officials. The cause of the sinking is under investigation.
