Bus aide accused of attempted murder
GREENACRES, Fla. (CBS12) —
A Palm Beach County schools bus attendant is charged with attempted murder.
This is the second felony allegation against Shimara Josey.
The district says she is being investigated, but she remains employed.
Given Josey’s history, CBS12 News wanted to know how was this aide able to work with children.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says 26-year-old Josey is connected to a shooting earlier this month in Lake Worth.
Two women were shot at on 7th Avenue South and F Street.
Investigators say Josey was with the shooter that afternoon arriving to the scene in her car.
The victim in this case reportedly identified Josey and alleged shooter, Rotell Norfus, in a lineup.
This isn't Shimara Josey’s first run-in with the law.
In 2008, she was convicted of battery. Eight years later, she was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
CBS12 News reached out to the Palm Beach County School District to see if they were aware Josey’s history when she was hired.
District officials tells CBS 12 News they complete background checks every year.
CBS12 News also asked the district how Josey was able to work with children, given her history.
However, the district asked CBS12 News to submit an official public records request to get that information.
CBS12 News will continue to follow up district administrators until we have that answer.
