The search for a missing grandmother with ties to West Palm Beach has come to a tragic end.

Thomasville Police say they have recovered the body of 70-year-old Deanna Shirey. The woman was last seen on Sunday, July 1.

Authorities found her car in Tallahassee two days later.

Police arrested 47-year-old Robert Carter as a person of interest in her disappearance on July 8.

Loved ones said Shirey once lived in Palm Beach County from the 1980s to the early 2000s. She worked at a Publix in the Town of Palm Beach at one point. She has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren between Florida and Georgia.

Family members thanked the community on Facebook for all the support.

It is with a heavy heart we would like to inform everyone that we have found Our mom. While our prayers were not answered to bring her home alive, we are able to properly lay her to rest.
We can not thank the tireless work of the GBI, Thomasville PD, Tallahassee PD and all the many other agencies who have enabled us to reach this point.
Thank you to this outstanding community who have been crying and praying with us. We couldn’t get through this without your support.
While we have only begun to process this information, one thing we are sure of is that we want to celebrate mom’s life here with you along with a celebration with our family in Gloucester. Once we have the details, we will share them with you.
