Awe in Autism event
JUPITER, Fla. (CBS12) —
The Els for Autism “Awe in Autism” cocktail event and concert is coming up.
Dr. Kerri Morse, the Adult Services Coordinator of the Els for Autism Foundation, spoke with CBS12 News This Morning about the upcoming event that helps to raise money for autism programs and learning centers.
Autism is a neurobehavioral condition present from early childhood that is variable in expression, characterized by difficulty in communicating and social interaction.
According to Els for Autism, the condition affects one in 68 young people in the U.S., which is more than pediatric cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined, with numbers increasing by 500 percent in the past 10 years.
Els for Autism offers programs to help adults effectively transition to all facets of life including employment, independent living and recreation.
The Awe in Autism performance will take place on March 31 at 5:30 p.m. at the Els Center of Excellence in Jupiter.
Matt Savage, a 24-year-old renowned jazz pianist and composer with autism, will perform.
Proceeds will benefit the Els for Autism Foundation, the Autism Project of Palm Beach County, The Learning Center, and the Renaissance Learning Academy.
