Scientists and experts at Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute will take a new look at the algae on Lake Okeechobee.

Crews will dispatch the Navocean “Nav2” vehicle, the first autonomous sail-driven surface vehicle next week.

It will be used to take samples from the harmful algal blooms in Lake O. The vessel will be deployed from the Pahokee Marina next Tuesday.

It will collect chlorophyll and particle data and send it via satellite to the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observation System.
