An assistant basketball coach at Wake Forest University was arrested in the death of a 35-year-old man from Boca Raton.

New York police said 35-year-old Jamill Jones, of Kernerville, North Carolina, turned himself in at 9 a.m. to a New York City Police Department precinct in Queens. Jones -- an assistant basketball coach at Wake Forest University, according to WFMY -- is accused of punching Sandor Szabo in the face during an encounter in Queens.

Szabo was visiting New York for a wedding and was leaving the hotel where his brother was staying Sunday night when Jones allegedly attacked him, according to officials. Szabor reportedly knocked on several car windows to see which ride was his. When Szabo knocked on Jones' window, Jones got out of his car and punched him in the face.

The blow was so hard, Szabo fell backwards, hit his head on the concrete and lost consciousness.

Jones then drove off in a white SUV, leaving Szabo on the sidewalk, police said. Szabo was taken to a local hospital, where he was put on life support before eventually passing away on Tuesday.

He is now facing third-degree assault charges.
