Armed robbery suspects captured with 4 year old in car, police say
BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) —
Police say they found a 4-year-old-boy in the getaway car of two men accused of robbing a bagel shop at gunpoint in Boca Raton .
The armed robbery happened Wednesday afternoon at Einstein Bros. Bagels on North Federal Highway. Police said that as a worker took out the trash, a man walked up with what appeared to be a gun in his hand. The robber ordered the employee back into the business to open the safe.
Investigators said the robber grabbed the cellphones from two workers and ripped the landline phone off the wall before running out.
A person who worked at a store close by managed to get the license plate number on the suspect's car and gave it to police.
Officers spotted and stopped the car, a White Honda Accord, on I-95 near Woolbright Road.
Police arrested 24-year-old Johnny Fontus and 24-year-old Karl Lormeus. Police found Lormeus' 4-year-old son in the back seat, along with an airsoft gun, mask, cash, and the stolen cell phones.
Lormeus, of Lantana, is facing charges of armed robbery, grand theft, and child neglect. Fontus, of Boynton Beach, faces charges of grand theft and armed robbery.
The little boy is in the custody of the Department of Children and Families, police said.
