GREENACRES, Fla. (CBS12) — Panic in a shopping plaza. A group of children were forced to take cover after a a man robbed a nearby latin restaurant.
It happened at Pines Plaza on Jog Road just south of Forest Hill Boulevard..
The robber took off without shooting or hurting anyone.
But as you can imagine it was a scary time for the people who work and visit the shopping plaza.
At the time of the robbery there were a group of kids and instructors in a performing arts studio just two doors from where the robbery happened.
Ali Ghnaim, the owner of the studio, told CBS12 as soon as they heard and saw deputies, they locked all the doors and huddled in the middle of the studio.
He said once it was safe to go outside, he saw surveillance video of the robbery.
Ghnaim said the video shows the robber, wearing a skull mask and entering through the back door of a restaurant called El Sabor Latino.
“He went inside the door opened the door. Went right to the register straight and he pulled his gun in front of the girl at the register and asked her for money,” Ghnaim said.
Sources told CBS12 the man who robbed El Sabor Latino Thursday morning is probably familiar with the layout of the restaurant and likely connected to other robberies that happened this morning in this area.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office would not confirm that, but said they are looking for the person involved in this armed robbery.
Sources told CBS12, PBSO recovered a backpack and shoe near the scene.
