A traffic stop quickly turned into a dramatic situation in central Florida, and it's all caught on camera.

A Flagler County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a car for a stop sign violation.

The deputy asked the driver to get out of the car after K9 Valor alerted to possible narcotics in the car.

The driver, identified by the sheriff's office as Alphonso Brooks, started to get out of his car when Deputy Smith and Officer Hirschi of the Bunnell Police Department saw Brooks reach back into his car to retrieve a gun.

Officers swarmed Brooks, knocking the gun from his hand.

"Are you insane?" yelled one deputy.

Brooks faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed firearm. He's being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $50,000 bond.

The quick action by officers on scene potentially saved a shooting as investigators believed Brooks planned to shoot a deputy or commit "suicide by cop," the sheriff's office said.
