Publix will soon be the sole distributor of COVID-19 vaccines in Palm Beach County.

At a county commission meeting Tuesday, Dr. Alina Alonso, the director of the county’s health department, said Gov. Ron DeSantis chose Palm Beach County as a 'test site' for the pilot program in which all coronavirus vaccines will be funneled through Publix.

The move could pose a real challenge for those who live in the western parts of the county, like in the Glades. Their nearest Publix could be more than a 30-minute drive.

In the meantime, the county will still administer vaccines to those who have scheduled appointments through the Health Department, but Alonso predicts that the county will run out of those supplies in early February.
