BELLE GLADE (CBS12) — At least two people are dead following a crash involving two semi-trucks and one car on State Road 80 near Belle Glade Thursday, according to Belle Glade Fire Rescue.
The crash caused State Road 80 to shut down at Sugar House Road. It has since been reopened.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the first semi-truck was traveling eastbound when the car drove into its path. The trailer hit the car pushing it into the median and then it continued into westbound lanes. That's when the first truck was struck by the second semi-truck in the westbound lanes.
The second semi-truck caught fire, but the driver managed to escape. They were airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center.
The driver of the first tractor trailer and car were pronounced dead at the scene.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
