A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the toddler and his mother were shot Thursday night in a Jacksonville home along Broadway Avenue, just east of I-95.

Officers say the mother's ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old Brian Littles shot the two after what appeared to be a domestic dispute.

The two were taken to University of Florida Health, where the boy remains in critical condition. The mother was released with just minor injuries, according to JSO.

Police took Littles into custody for questioning. Right now, police say Littles is being charged with possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, stemming from a case back in 2010.

Police say other people were in the home during the shooting, but do not know if Littles was already there or forced his way into the home.
