Tuesday Deputies finally ended an investigation into allegations of animal cruelty stemming from a viral video.

The video of a shark being dragged and whipped across the ocean off the Florida Coast launched a social media firestorm and a four-month investigation.

Tuesday, three people turned themselves in to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Michael Wenzel of Palmetto, Robert Lee Benac of Bradenton and Spencer’s Heintz of Palmetto All face animal cruelty charges in connection with that footage.

Investigators looked at social media posts and even spoke to shark experts before bringing charges.

Right now the three men are out on bail, but they face five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
