2 hospitalized after shooting in West Palm Beach

Two people were rushed to the hospital Sunday night after a shooting in the Emporium Shoppes plaza on Okeechobee Boulevard, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting took place around 7:18 p.m.

Two men entered the Palms Arcade and opened fire, according to deputies. Two adults were struck by gunfire and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Their conditions are currently unknown.

Jennifer Villano said her mother was working at the time of the shooting.

“I called her immediately when I heard the news," she said. "She was crying on the phone obviously."

Villano shared her mother’s frightening account of what happened inside.

“A guy came in with a bandana, or something on his face, and he went behind the counter," Villano said. "She didn’t give much detail, but pretty much whoever was behind the counter got shot."

And the gunfire didn't stop there.

“All she said was that her co-worker, one of them got shot in the back. The other -- she didn’t say where they got shot -- but the one that didn’t get shot in the back got his gun and tried to shoot at robber," Villano said. "She said he didn’t hit the robber and ran."

Villano is relieved her mother escaped unharmed.

The victims are are recovering at a hospital, according to Villano, but are expected to be OK.

Deputies are in the process of speaking with witnesses, as suspect information is vague.

Crime Scene investigators also responded to the scene, the sheriff's office said.
