2 dogs die in West Palm Beach apartment fire

Two dogs died in an apartment fire late Friday afternoon, West Palm Beach Fire Rescue said.

The fire ignited around 4:30 p.m. near Congress Avenue and Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.

The apartment was in a two-story building and one of the units caught fire for an unknown reason, according to fire officials. It took 20 minutes to attack and extinguish the flames, but fire crews are still on scene.

No humans were injured or killed, but the two dogs died from smoke inhalation, fire officials said.

An investigator is en route to determine cause of the fire.
