16-year-old male found deceased inside Melbourne home after shooting

16-year-old opens fire on officers, standoff underway.

Authorities in Melbourne says 16-year-old Michael Proctor of West Melbourne opened fire on officers, and found deceased.

The West Melbourne Police Department says the shooter suffered from a self inflicted gun shot wound.

WMPD responded to a call just before midnight Wednesday. The caller said her 16-year-old grandson was throwing things inside their home.

According to the department's Facebook page, officers were speaking with family members when the teenager walked out of a bedroom and opened fire. Officers grabbed three of the family members and ran outside. The department says officers did not return fire.

The 16-year-old trapped himself inside the home with two other people. Both of them escaped.

At this time, no one is injured.

The West Melbourne Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office SWAT team are on scene.

Police say they're not releasing the name of the 16-year-old at this time.

Officers evacuated a few homes in the area, according to the department.
