LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. (CBS12) — One man was hospitalized following a house fire on Banyan Avenue Monday morning, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said.
The blaze ignited just before 9 a.m.
The first arriving firefighters reported smoke from a home that still had hurricane shutters in place, according to fire officials. Firefighters had to cut through the shutters to get inside.
The victim was rescued from inside the home and taken to a local hospital for treatment. It's currently unclear what caused the fire.
Because the hurricane shutters still on the home hindered firefighters and delayed rescue operations, fire officials are urging residents to remove their shutters once a storm has passed.
