Founder of Children's Oasis International in need of 2000 backpacks for children in need

BOYNTON BEACH, Fl. - It started back in 2008 when Bethan and her husband were on vacation in Jamaica. Bethan observed a young boy erasing a composition folder. She asked what he was doing and he replied, "erasing this year's work to reuse it next year."

After seeing the need of this young man and others in the community, Bethan jumped into action and asked her husband how much composition books cost. Thus, the Children's Oasis International was born.

To date, the organization has assisted more than 15,000 children with clothing, medical supplies, school supplies, shoes and more. The group is hoping to serve more than 100,000 children by 2020. Children in the U.S., Jamaica and Haiti are helped through this organization.

Bethan say her next trip to Jamaica is scheduled for August. Her new goal is to take with her 2000 backpacks filled with school supplies to give to the needy children.

"I know we can reach this goal with help from Palm Beach County residents, we accept cash, school supplies, backpacks. No child should have to go to school without the basis essentials needed to succeed," said Bethan.

The organization is having a fundraising banquet on June 4th at Benvenuto Restaurant in 1730 N. Federal Highway, Boynton Beach, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. where they will be giving away 3 scholarships to graduating students right here in Palm Beach County who are in need. Those amounts are $1,500, $1,000 and $500.
