FBI recovers stolen pair of ruby slippers from Wizard of Oz
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (CBS12) —
A pair of stolen ruby red slippers worn in the Wizard of Oz and worth millions of dollars have been recovered by the FBI.
The FBI made the announcement during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators said someone stole the slippers from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, in 2005.
Only four pairs are known to exist. The recovered pair of slippers are known as the "traveling pair."
The FBI said the investigation picked up steam through a tip last summer.
Investigators identified suspects and executed search warrants in Minnesota and Florida. The FBI hopes more people come forward with information to identify all those involved in what investigators say is an extortion plot against the Markel Corporation, which owns the slippers.
