Faces of Black History: Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey was born in rural Mississippi in 1954.

Winfrey got her start in radio and television in Nashville. From there. she moved to Baltimore to host a TV chat show.

She later moved to Chicago to host her own show, the Oprah Winfrey Show, which ran for 25 years.

Winfrey launched the successful OWN Network the same year her show ended.

She's the first black female host of a syndicated show and was the first black female billionaire in the United States.

Last month, Winfrey also became the first African American woman to be honored with the Golden Globes' Cecil B. Demille Award for Lifetime Achievement.
