State of Emergency, evacuation orders issued for Indian River County
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) —
Indian River County leaders issued a state of emergency for the county and has ordered both voluntary and mandatory evacuations.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, County Administrator Jason Brown declared state of emergency as of 1 p.m. Thursday.
Officials say all county and constitutional offices will be closed on Friday and Monday.
As of now, voluntary evacuation orders have been issued for low lying areas in the county.
Officials say mandatory evacuations will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. Shelters will also open at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The Sheriff's Office says a special needs shelter will be open at Treasure Coast Elementary. Residents must register for this shelter by calling 772-226-3930.
The county says as shelters begin to fill up, the Sheriff's Office will open other shelters if necessary.
