Tropical weather may dampen Memorial Day Weekend
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —
The StormTrac Weather Team is continuing to monitor an area in the Caribbean for the potential of tropical formation. The surface low is located just east of Belize and is bringing clouds and showers across the Caribbean Sea, Cuba and the Florida peninsula.
While little development is expected over the next 2 days, there is a now a greater chance of tropical formation once this area moves into the Gulf towards the weekend. The National Hurricane Center is giving this low a 60% chance of development through the next 5 days.
Regardless of development, heavy rain and flooding will be the biggest concern as we head into the weekend. Areas across south Florida could pick up another 5-7 inches of rain over the next week, with isolated areas possibly receiving up to 10 inches.
