Kate Wentzel joined the CBS 12 news team in march 2017. Although she is new to CBS 12, she has more than 15 years of experience forecasting Florida weather.
A native of San Diego, she spent her formative years in the midwest, both in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois.
Her meteorology career began at Florida's News Channel in Tallahassee; with stops at WSVN in Miami and KEYT in Santa Barbara where she served as chief meteorologist. From there she worked at KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles; WPBF here in West Palm Beach; and WTSP in Tampa.
Wentzel has a B.A. degree in Communications and Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University, and has completed the broadcast meteorology program at Mississippi State University. She has earned both the American Meteorology Society Seal of Approval and the National Weather Association Seal of Approval.
Kate loves spending time at the beach, participating in sprint triathlons, scuba diving, and travelling. She is happiest being with family and spending time with her niece and nephew.
Her favorite part about living in South Florida is our tropical climate which allows for year-round outdoor activity.
