Jupiter resident, Honda Classic victor Thomas becomes World #1
JUPITER, Fla. (CBS12) —
Jupiter resident and Honda Classic Champion Justin Thomas, jumped his neighbor Dustin Johnson to become the top-ranked player in golf for the first time.
Thomas finished 11th at this weekend's Players Championship, beating Johnson by just a few strokes. The top few golfers are so close, it will be hard for Thomas to hold to that spot for a long period of time. But Thomas said after his final round Sunday, that this would only seem like a major accomplishment to him, if he is able to hold on to the position for more than just a short stretch.
Thomas is just the 7th American ever to be Number One in the world and the fourth youngest player, at just 25 years old, to earn the spot.
Thomas was the PGA Tour Player of the Year in 2017, winning the PGA Championship and the FedEx Cup.
