PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) —
Tiger Woods' 21-year-old playing partner on Sunday at the Honda Classic doesn't remember much about the 'start' of his round . But by the end, it was a day of golf, he will never forget.
"You see him on TV, and then you see him on the tee box," says Sam Burns after completing his final round at the Honda Classic. "And you say to yourself.... that's Tiger Woods."
No, that's not one of the 200 thousand plus fans that packed PGA National to see Tiger Woods this week.
That's Sam Burns - a PGA Tour rookie, that was paired with Tiger Sunday at the Honda Classic.
"I don't remember the first tee shot, I kind of blacked out."
The Shreveport, Louisiana native eventually found his legs, and actually outplayed tiger sunday. Burns fired a 2 under par 68, beating the legend by two strokes.
"I feel like the older guy," said Woods. "Sam is half my age, that's a little different. He played beautifully."
Burns said Tiger was super nice and very encouraging. Making the whole day like a dream come true.
"Anybody my age, or any age wants to play golf with Tiger Woods," said Burns. "Never mind at the Honda Classic."
Not only was it a story he'll be able to tell for a lifetime, but he'll be spending about that long answering text messages.
How many text messages to you have right now? he was asked. 448, was his response.
