Verlander and Strasburg duel at Ballpark of the Palm Beaches

The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches has only been around for two weeks - But it had never seen a pitching magic as juicy as the one it saw Monday afternoon.

Taking a look at the tale of the tape - in one corner - Steven Strasburg for the Nationals. The most hyped pitching prospect ever to come out of college, Strasburg is a former #1 overall pick. He has had some arm problem,. but does have a season where he led the league in strikeouts and started last season 12-0.

In the other corner - the Tigers' Justin Verlander. He won the AL MVP and Cy Young in 2011. He finished 2nd in the Cy Young voting last year. He's a former rookie of the year, and has also pitched two no-hitters and led the AL in strikeouts 4 times.

Strasburg was dealing early, striking out five Tiger batters. But he was also hit hard a few times - surrendering a Jose Iglesias sacrifice fly and JD Martinez home run. He gave up two runs over 4 innings.

Verlander was a little more on point - he pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing just two baserunners.

Verlander left the game with a lead, but it ended in a 3-3 tie.

The Astros host the Mets Tuesday at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
