Saturday's Battle of the Owls ends in Rice's favor; McCormack still one short of 300 Wins
Boca Raton (CBS12) —
The Florida Atlantic Owls were looking to pull off a milestone for head coach John McCormack on Saturday against Rice, but they fell just short on a hard fought game.
The FAU Owls fell behind 3-0 early to the Rice Owls, but a 3-run forth inning changed the feel of the game completely. Stephen Kerr cashed in an RBI with a double, while Pedro Pages pulled off the sac fly. Jordan Poore then tied things up with two outs with a double that drove Kerr home.
But with the game tied at 4 in the 9th inning, it was Rice’s Ryan Chandler landing the final blow, driving in what would eventually be the game-winning run in a 5-4 Rice Final
McCormack fell just short of winning hos 300th career game at FAU, but the Owls will be back at it again on Sunday at noon when the play the rubber match of their series with Rice.
