Update: Augusta National suspends play for second time

UPDATE: At 1:25pm on Wednesday, Augusta National Golf Club suspended play for the second time, this time ending all on the course action for the remainder of the day. The Par 3 Contest began at 12:30pm, but was called off with severe weather entering the area.

Practice rounds for the Masters were suspended due to an approaching weather system, and the course was closed for two and a half hours on Wednesday morning.

Officials shut down the course about 10 a.m. and patrons were evacuated because of the storm. But the course reopened at 12:30, and patrons were allowed to reenter the course for the Par 3 Contest.

Wednesday is the final day competitors can work on their games before the tournament starts Thursday. The weather had put the popular Par 3 Contest. Competitors typically bring family members to caddy or watch and the crowds on hand enjoy taking part.

The Par 3 Contest had never been canceled before because of weather. The rest of the week calls for cool, windy weather at Augusta National, with little rain in the forecast.
