Hoops for Heroes nets much needed funding for wounded veterans and their families

There was lots of heroic hoops being played at Palm Beach Atlantic n Saturday, but the players were playing to raise money for the real heroes at the 3rd annual Hoops for Heroes 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Not only was it a chance to play some competitive hoops, but 100 percent of the proceeds raised by the teams went to the Wounded Warriors Relief Fund.

"Over 2,565 veterans and their family members were helped last year," said a proud Michael Durkee, executive director of the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund. "And out of that 440 veterans and their families averted homelessness last year as well. It gives me goosebumps when I tell you that, because it's a wonderful thing when you can help veterans who served our countries who have done so much to protect our liberties and our lives."

The event has raised over 10-thousand dollars since 2004 for non-profits that benefit veterans.
