Athlete of the Week: John Carroll's Ashley Rosado
VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —
The John Carroll softball team has pulled off their first state championship since 1996. And every single player on the team gives full credit to their 4-year captain and the CBS12 Athlete of the Week, Ashley Rosado
"Softball is my passion, I love to do it!" says Rosado. "I can do it 24-7 every day!"
And that enthusiam and commitment is a huge reason why John Carroll was able to win a state championship. It's something Rosado's father and coach has watched her work towards since she was a freshman.
"She practices 6 to 7 days a week," says Rico Rosado. "She's been the captain of this team for 4 years. As a freshman she was voted the captain by seniors and juniors, and the MVP, this is going to be her 4th year of being the MVP of the team."
Her passion for shortstop was put on hold thanks to her dominating mound presence. Pitching a complete game once again to clinch the state championship.
"She brings so much to the team, pitching, like when she gets on the mound no one worries, you already know she has it," says teammate Rachel Thomas.
"I like doing it a little bit more than playing shortstop," says Rosado. "And I like when there's like, I like being the center of attention too so, I like being in the circle."
And she thrives on being a leader, and there's no question how important she is to the Golden Rams.
"She brings everything to the team," says teammate Cammeo Presutti. "She brings leadership, she brings confidence, she boosts us up, she leads us off, she's just amazing, she's an all around player, and it's amazing I had the pleasure to play with her."
"I'm not about myself, so I know if I don't get a hit I have confidence in my team I know that they're gonna back me up no matter what," says Rosado. WWe came out with one goal and that was to win States, and we did it. There's nothing better than ending your senior year like this."
