Athlete of the Week: Benjamin's Jordan Travis
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) —
The Benjamin Boys Basketball team struggled in their first three games as their varsity school quarterback Jordan Travis wrapped up his fooball season. As John Evenson reports, ths week's CBS12 Athlete of the Week is just as important to his basketball team, eading Benjamin into the District semifinals
"Our fans are great, the players defintely help a lot, they motivate me to do great, and this school's atmosphere is definitely amazing," says Travis.
And so is Jordan Travis' uncanny ability to be the backbone of whatever team he plays on, in whatever sport he chooses.
"He's 6'1 or 6'2 he's undersized for the position he plays," says Benjamin basketball coach Brandon Arnette. "But he plays like he's 6'5 or 6'6 just like on the football field. He's a 6'1 or 6'2 quarterback, but you'd think he's close to Jameis Winston out there when he comes and competes at such a high level."
Jordan admits a big reason for that is the support he gets from his family, and the fact that his brother Devin Travis has already seen *his* dreams come true, playing Major League Baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays.
"Definitely motivation, he's a great role model," says Travis. "He's the best person out there I've ever met in my life, and I want to be just like him."
"He knows the preparation it takes," adds Arnette. "The hard work, the dedication, but it gives him a sense of confidence knowing that someone that close in the family is playing professional baseball at such a high level. It's just great to game that."
"Definitely hustle, get every ball on the ground, get every rebound and make the best passes I can make."
"Doesn't complain much, he's here to help the team by any means necessary."
