#CBS12 Convo: Parents can face fine, jail time under anti-bullying law

#CBS12 Convo: Parents can face fine, jail time under anti-bullying law. (MGN)

Parents could face jail time if their child is found bullying others, in a new law approved by a western New York community.

According to a Weny article, parents could be fined up to $250, and sentenced to 15 days in jail if their child violates the bullying law twice in a 90 day period.

Members of the North Tonawanda Common Council hope the new law will stop bullying, and hold parents accountable for the actions of their children.

The law went into effect Oct. 1 in the Niagara county city of North Tonawanda, just north of Buffalo.

The law has been implemented after four teens were kicked out of North Tonawanda Middle School for alleged bullying.

Do you think parents are to blame, or is it ultimately the child's fault? Tell us what you think, join the CBS Convo with Teri Hornstein and see your comments live at 9 a.m.
