BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – A World War II veteran reminded everyone that he’s still better than them at cornhole as they get ready to celebrate his 100 birthday.

Simon Rose fought in Iwo Jima during the war. He told FOX 45 he still plays cornhole with his wife every Wednesday at the Beavercreek Senior Center, so they celebrated his birthday a few days early.

Rose will be 100 on Saturday, and Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone stopped by the celebration to officially declare September 23 Simon Rose Day.

“You know, 100 years, that’s pretty impressive,” FOX 45 asked Rose. “Any secrets to that?”

“I’ll take all the credit,” his wife Geneva Rose answered.

“She does take care of me, really,” Rose agreed.

Rose is also one of the veterans who has taken the trip with Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to see the war memorials.
