Mother shot, killed in front of husband, 2 kids

A family from Houston became the victims of an overnight crime spree when they lost their mother, according to the Houston Police Department.

CBS12 affiliate KHOU reports that the carjackers stole a Jeep from a couple earlier that day, then crashed into the family's car before fleeing the scene.

Police say the husband followed the car to get the license plate number. Officers say a person in the Jeep began opening fire towards the family's car, killing the man's wife, then speeding away.

The couple's two children, ages 4 and 4-months, were in the car at the time.

"We need someone to help us catch them," said Edward Scott, the husband. "She won't be around to see them grow old. Be able to have their first moments in life. So whatever the public can offer would be great to help out as much as they can," added Scott.

According to KHOU, Scott told the media he doesn't want to release his wife's name or picture in an attempt to not hinder the investigation.

Suspect information has not been released.
