Little girl killed in shooting after surviving car crash

An eight-year-old girl was killed in a shooting after a car crash in Houston.

Police told CNN affiliate KTRK the girl was riding in her car with her mother when two other cars crashed into it. Suddenly, someone hopped out of one of the cars and started shooting.

The girl got hit by a stray bullet. She died at the hospital.

The mother of the little girl said it was a woman who opened fire.

"Each one of those bullets hit the back of my car right where my baby was," said Toyia Thomas in an interview with KTRK. "I pulled out of the car, didn't even know she got shot. I thought she was still asleep. I laid her on the ground and when I looked at her jacket I could see a blood stain," said Thomas. "I kept telling her, 'wake up wake up, stay with me, stay with me, stay with me, stay with me,'" sobbed Thomas.

Police are looking for the people in the two cars who ran off after the shooting.
