War plane to be donated to G-Star School in Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS, Fla. (CBS 12) —
A historic World War II Douglas C-47 Dakota Skytrain is being delivered to the G-Star School of the Arts for Film, Animation and Performing Arts next Wednesday.
The war plane flew in Normandy on D-day in 1944 and is one of only five left today. It's also made an appearance in several movies, numerous videos, commercials and TV productions.
The plane will be joined as a permanent fixture on the studios' back lot with a Vietnam-era Grumman Mohawk gunship airplane that saw action in Vietnam, The Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Mohawk will be towed on its own wheels from the Lantana Airport on Congress Avenue to the G-Star School of the Arts in Palm Springs, three blocks south of Forest Hill Blvd. at 11 a.m.
The plane is being donated by Paul Pefley, owner of Mohawk Technologies.
