The search is on for a woman who targeted a family on vacation in Deerfield Beach earlier this month.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says a father and son were taking a nap in their hotel room at the Embassy Suites on S. Ocean Drive on Aug. 2. The mother and daughter were out, and the door was left unlocked.

That's when deputies say the woman slipped into the hotel room and stole the man's wallet. Sometime around 5:45 p.m., the man received a call saying his debit and credit cards had been used fraudulently.

Authorities released surveillance video of the woman Friday, showing her entering the hotel and also using the cards at a Publix store on Federal Highway.

BSO says the woman tried to purchase over $800 worth of gift cards. When the cashier asked for identification, the woman said the card belonged to her husband.

Deputies say the employee called the store manager, and the woman took off. She later returned to the hotel around 6:15 p.m.

Deputies linked the thief to a woman who checked into the hotel just days before and was staying on the same floor as the vacationing family.

Authorities found in the woman's room the victim's wallet as well as items from Oakland Park and Pompano Beach burglaries, which both occurred in July.

The woman has not been located. Deputies say she may have changed into different clothes after the initial theft.
